Event Description
Northwestern University’s Media, Technology, and Society doctoral program and Communication Studies Department sponsored the second annual InfoSocial conference on October 25-26, 2013. The two-day event showcased cutting-edge, interdisciplinary graduate student work bridging media, technology, and social science.
InfoSocial 2013 received nearly 100 submissions from over 50 institutions located in 9 different countries (United States, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, France, Finland, India and Nigeria). Nearly 150 students and faculty from around the globe registered to attend the event.
The proceedings commenced in Annie May Swift Hall on Friday, October 25th with a keynote address by Sara Kiesler, the Hillman Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, followed by a dinner reception in the Frances Searle Building second floor atrium.
The conference resumed on Saturday, October 26th in the Norris Student Center Wildcat Room with four symposia on literacy, discourse and rhetoric, social networking sites, institutions and law, and organizations and technology, along with a poster session covering topics such as children’s media, online collective action, and social network analysis. Robert Hariman of Northwestern University, Zizi Papacharissi of University of Illinois, Chicago, Christian Sandvig of the University of Michigan, and Jeffrey Treem of The University of Texas at Austin served as panel discussants.
InfoSocial concluded with a dinner reception at Mt. Everest Restaurant.
